Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

Jack Bone H.M.G. Memorial Bursary

Bursary | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Jack Bone H.M.G. Memorial Bursary is awarded on recommendation of the Director of the School of Music to assist promising piano students in the pursuit of musical studies. The bursary, which may be renewed, will be awarded to entering or returning students originating from Cape Breton with demonstrated financial need and good academic standing.

The bursary was established by the estate of Jack Bone to commemorate three wonderful musicians who greatly influenced him; Gordon Harrigan, Allan Joseph MacDonald and St. Clair Grannum.

Janis and Felicita Kalejs Memorial Award in Music

Award | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Janis and Felicita Kalejs Memorial Award in Music is awarded annually to a promising student of strings on recommendation from the School of Music.

This award was established through gifts in memory of the late Dean Janis Kalejs and Professor Felicita Kalejs of the School of Music. The Kalejs', through their teaching, inspired their students to use their talents in their careers, for their own pleasure, and for the enjoyment of others: Janis in strings from 1949 to 1973 and Felicita in piano from 1949 to 1979.

Jean Amy and Jane MacIntyre Memorial Award in Music

Award | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Jean Amy & Jane MacIntyre Memorial Award in Music is awarded annually on recommendation of the Director of the School of Music to a student registered in that School who is making commendable progress with preference given in the study of piano or organ.

The award was first provided in 1980 by the late Mrs. MacIntyre's sister, Mrs. W.D. Burden, and daughters, Mrs. Mary Charlotte Reeves and Mrs. Jean P. Amy. The award was updated in 2005 through the generosity of the estate of Jean P. Amy (Class of ’43). Jane MacIntyre graduated from the Acadia Seminary in 1914.”

Joan Sutherland Murray Memorial Scholarship (Piano)

Scholarship of up to $315 | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Joan Sutherland Murray Memorial Scholarship (Piano) is awarded annually on the recommendation of the School of Music to a deserving student majoring in piano. The scholarship was established in memory of Mrs. Murray (B.A. Sec. Science Diploma Acadia, 1953) who, as an accomplished musician, held a life-long interest in music.
