Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

Joanne Strum Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Computer Science, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Joanne Strum Memorial Scholarship established by family and friends in memory of Joanne Strum (1965-1987), the income from this fund is available for the support of a Canadian student entering the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate program in Computer Science. The recipient shall have good academic standing, demonstrated financial need and shall not hold any other major award. The award shall be made by the Scholarships, Prizes and Awards Committee, acting on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Computer Science.

John D. Butch Award

Award | Eligibility: Computer Science

Established in 2019 by Tracey McGillivray (’87/’15) in honour of a mentor and friend, John D. Butch, this award is granted to a full-time female computer science student who demonstrates leadership qualities through extracurricular activities such as volunteer work, athletics or arts. Preference will be given to students exhibiting financial need.

John MacIntyre Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Athletics, Professional Studies, Pure and Applied Science, Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Science, Geology, Kinesiology, Mathematics and Statistics, Nutrition, Physics, Psychology

The John MacIntyre Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more Men’s Varsity Soccer player(s) who is/are in their second or subsequent year of study at Acadia. Preference will be given to Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Kinesiology student-athlete(s) of high academic standing, who display sportsmanship and strong leadership skills. The award(s) will be chosen on the recommendation of the head coach of the Men’s Soccer team and Director of Varsity Athletics.

John MacIntyre (BSc, Acadia, 1997), as a member of the Varsity Men’s Soccer team was both an AUS All-Star and Academic All-Canadian award recipient. This endowed scholarship was established in 2005 by Mary, Gus and Janet MacIntyre in memory of their son and brother.
