Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

MacNeill Scholar-Bursaries

Scholar-Bursary of up to $8,000 | Eligibility: Canada, Entering first year, USA

The MacNeill Scholar-Bursaries, valued at $8,000 each, are awarded to Canadian or American students entering full-time study at Acadia in any discipline. A total of 20 students may receive these scholar-bursaries in any given year. The scholarships are renewable for four years, or until graduation, subject to maintaining an average of 80%.

The MacNeill Scholar-Bursaries were made possible through the kindness and generosity of alumni H. Gordon MacNeill, BA '48 DCL '87 DD (Knox College), Barbara McLellan MacNeill BA '50, and Janice MacNeill BSH ’76.

Margaret S. Sterling Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year

The Margaret S. Sterling Scholarship of $960 ($320 a year for up to three years) was endowed by the late Miss A. Clyde Sterling of Kentville, Nova Scotia.

Marjorie Manning Fountain Scholar-Bursary

Scholar-Bursary | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Business Administration, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Marjorie Manning Fountain Scholar-Bursary to be awarded annually for study in The Fred C. Manning School of Business Administration to a student who has been a resident of the Atlantic Provinces of Canada for a period of ten years or more. The award could be made for study in any year and could be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Martha Hall Vanderpoel Mills Memorial Scholarships

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Martha Hall Vanderpoel Mills Memorial Scholarships were established in 1989 through the Estate of Katherine V. Mills in memory of her mother. The scholarships are available to residents of Annapolis County studying in the Faculty of Science with preference given to students majoring in physics, geology, chemistry or mathematics.

Mary Alice Reid Entrance Scholarships

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year

The Mary Alice Reid Entrance Scholarships. Two at $710 are awarded every third or fourth year or as otherwise available. The funds are made available through a bequest from Miss Mary Alice Reid (Seminary, 1909) of Montreal, Quebec.

Mathematics and Statistics Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Mathematics and Statistics, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Mathematics and Statistics Scholarship is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics to an entering or continuing student, majoring in that department, who has demonstrated excellence and potential to excel in the discipline. Funds may be awarded during the spring and summer to students engaged in research activities. The scholarship was established through the generosity of former students, faculty and friends of the Department to promote and reward excellence in Mathematics and Statistics.

Maynard F. Schurman Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year, Prince Edward Island

The Maynard F. Schurman Scholarship of $470 a year for up to four years endowed by Mrs. Maynard F. Schurman of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, is to be awarded to a qualified entrant.

Moira Grace Crawford Scholar-Bursary in Music

Scholar-Bursary | Eligibility: Music, Entering first year

Established in 2016 by Claire (’89) and Kirk VanBlarcom (’85) in loving memory of Claire’s mother, Moira Grace Crawford (1942-2016), this award is granted to an entering student in the School of Music in recognition of both academic excellence and financial need.

Molson Post Secondary Excellence Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Nutrition, Entering first year

The Molson Post Secondary Excellence Scholarship is endowed by the Molson Companies to assist the student with the highest academic standing, who, upon entrance to Acadia, will major in the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. The Molson group of companies participate in and contribute in significant ways to the food and beverage industry in Canada and abroad.

Morton Memorial Scholarship in Music

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Morton Memorial Scholarship in Music was established by Dr. Harry S. Morton in memory of his mother, Maie Stafford Morton. It is available as an entrance or in-course scholarship to an outstanding student on recommendation of the Director of the School of Music.

Mud Creek Rotary Acadia Entrance Awards

Award of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Entering first year

Established in 2018 by The Rotary Club of Wolfville – Mud Creek. These awards will be granted annually preferably to one student from each of the region`s secondary schools: West Kings, Horton, Northeast Kings, Avon View and Central Kings. The recipients will be chosen in recognition of financial need.

The Rotary Club of Wolfville – Mud Creek was formed in 2010 with six members from the Rotary Club of Wolfville. The name `Mud Creek` was chosen to associate the club with the rich history of Wolfville, formerly known as Mud Creek. While still a Community Service-focussed club, Mud Creek is active in areas of Vocational & International & Youth Services.

Murray G Ross Entrance Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Entering first year

The Murray G Ross Entrance Scholarship is provided annually to a student entering Acadia University who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. The scholarship is provided through the generosity of Dr Murray G Ross (BA ’36, Hon DCL ’60) of Toronto, Ontario.
