The Biggest Mill: The History of the Davison Lumbering Empire

October 12, 2017 (12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

Location: Acadia Art Gallery

In this week's Acadia Lifelong Learning Lunchtime Learning Series talk, we explore how the initiative of early Nova Scotian pioneers grew into an empire of legendary proportions. This presentation traces the Davison name in lumbering from Samuel Mack to the collapse of the Davison Lumber & Manufacturing.

This talk is presented by Philip Spencer, Davison Lumber Co historian. Formerly in the automotive trade, he now works for Natural Resources Canada at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Due to a family connection, this story has been his lifelong interest but he has been conducting extensive research into Davison Lumber for more than 15 years.

This presentation is free for community members, students, staff, and faculty.
