Acadia’s Facebook page makes the Canadian social media honour roll

Acadia University’s Facebook page has been named one of the top 10 performing among colleges and universities in Canada by Engagement Labs, which develops technology for measuring online social engagement.

Using its eValue Analytics service, the company said it measures social media performance based on an aggregate of engagement, impact, and responsiveness. Engagement measures the level of interaction displayed through likes, comments and other community reactions; impact examines how many unique users have been "exposed" to a piece of content; and responsiveness looks at the rate, speed and quality of the school's responses to its fans. The analytics can currently be used for social activities on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

"College and university students are constantly using social media as a tool for communication and keeping up-to-date on all news. Student life has quickly adopted social media, thereby offering higher education institutions with an ideal avenue for two-way, real time communication with prospective and current students," stated Bryan Segal, CEO at Engagement Labs.

"Students are highly engaged and always want to interact with the shared content, as long as it's compelling. Thus, this provides an opportunity for academic institutions to create content that promotes their academics and campus life, not only for its current students, but also for recruitment purposes and as a platform to engage with alumni and parents."

Acadia’s undergraduate student population is 3,500 and its Facebook page has 18,900 fans compared to first-place contender in the Facebook category, University of British Columbia, which has an undergraduate student population of 33,800 and 143,000 Facebook fans.
