Acadia’s first-year enrolment jumps 25 per cent

Acadia’s full-time, first-year enrolment has increased 25.4 per cent over September 2015, according to the Association of Atlantic Universities’ Preliminary Survey of University Enrolments for 2016, released today. This is the largest increase among all Atlantic universities, and Acadia is one of only two universities in Atlantic Canada to post a significant gain in full-time undergraduate enrolment.

“This is an extraordinary result and represents the highest first-year enrolment since the start of the Ontario double cohort in 2003. The efforts of everyone on campus to make student recruitment a priority have clearly paid strong dividends,” said Ray Ivany, President and Vice-Chancellor.

Welcome Week 2016 at Acadia University.

“This year’s enrolment increase is a direct result of targeted recruitment efforts in key markets across Canada and abroad that involved faculty, staff and alumni. The reorganization of our recruitment team, together with a dynamic partnership with the Associated Alumni and the Alumni Office, has proven very successful. The enrolment results, coupled with the recent announcement of a $22.25 million renewal of our science complex and our selection as host of the CIS national women’s soccer championship in November, means we enter the 2016 academic year with considerable momentum – it is an exciting time on the Acadia campus!” said Ivany.

In addition to the 25 per cent increase in first-year enrolment, our international student numbers grew by 1.5 per cent, the overall full-time undergraduate enrolment is up 2.0 per cent over 2015, with total full-time enrolment 1.8 per cent higher than at this time last year.

“I want to thank our recruitment team along with the entire campus community for their efforts to bring such a talented group of students to Acadia. I am confident the Class of 2020 will have the same extraordinary experience that has been the hallmark of Acadia since 1838,” added Ivany.
