Dr. Heather Hemming Appointed Acadia’s Vice-President, Academic

Dr. Heather Hemming, Acadia’s Dean of Professional Studies and Professor of Education, has been appointed Vice-President Academic (Acting) effective July 1, 2016. Dr. Hemming is the first woman to hold the position of Vice-President Academic at Acadia, which follows a distinguished career at Acadia as a scholar, teacher and academic leader.

Dr. Heather HemmingA two-time graduate of Acadia, Dr. Hemming’s faculty career at Acadia began in 1986 in the University’s School of Education. In 2000, she was appointed Director of the School of Education and in July 2007 was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Professional Studies comprising Acadia’s Schools of Education, Business, Kinesiology, and Community Development. 

“Heather’s lifelong connection to Acadia means she has a unique perspective on this University,” said Ray Ivany, Acadia’s President and Vice-Chancellor. “She understands Acadia as a student, alumna and faculty member. She has made significant contributions to Acadia as a scholar and to her colleagues as a collaborator and academic administrator. I welcome Heather to this new role and look forward to working with her over the next year.”

 “I believe in Acadia,” said Dr. Hemming. “I believe in the commitment our faculty, staff and administrators have to our students and to academic excellence. It is an honour to lead the academic sector in this capacity.”

Replacing Dr. Hemming as Dean of Professional Studies will be Dr. Ann Vibert between July 1 and December 31, followed by Dr. Glyn Bissix between January 1 and June 30, 2017.
