President Ivany honoured as one of Canada's Most Admired CEOs

Acadia University's Board of Governors Chair John Rogers shared the following message with campus today:

Colleagues,

This morning, in the National Post, our President and Vice-Chancellor, Ray Ivany, was named one of Canada’s Most Admired CEOs for 2016 by Waterstone Human Capital. Ray was recognized in Waterstone’s Broader Public Sector and joins previous winners Marc and Craig Keilburger, founders of the WE Charity and former Olympic speed-skater Johann Koss, CEO of Right to Play.

Our community has faced an extraordinarily challenging set of circumstances and Ray’s determination to preserve Acadia and its institutional principles while at the same time contributing to the broader interests of Nova Scotians through guiding the work that produced the Ivany Report, distinguishes him as one of our country’s leaders in public policy as well as post-secondary education.

In his remarks announcing this year’s winners, Marty Parker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Waterstone Human Capital and Chair of Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures™, said, “What’s so impressive about the 2016 winning CEO’s is their shared belief that culture is a vital component of an organization’s success – they have fostered a culture within their organization that enhances performance and sustains a competitive advantage.”

I believe that Acadia’s culture –  based on a solid foundation of faculty and student academic excellence – is the reason for our continued success and is what truly sets us apart. When we contrast the challenges we’ve faced, including fluctuating enrolment and budgets, against several significant achievements such as the recently announced funding for the Science Complex, we have many reasons to be pleased.

This fall in particular has given everyone at Acadia several opportunities to celebrate continued success academically, athletically and institutionally – all tributes to our culture. Please join me in congratulating Ray for joining Waterstone’s list of Most Admired CEOs and for his continued efforts to maintain Acadia’s positive profile with key community stakeholders.

John Rogers
