Acadia Stands with the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

Acadia University values diversity and is committed to building safer spaces where everyone can feel pride in expressing their full and authentic self, including Acadia students, employees, and members of our broader Annapolis Valley community.

In recent weeks, we have become aware of multiple reports of harm and threats to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community across our Province, including the burning of a Pride flag and other disturbing actions targeting Pride symbols. We have also heard reports of intentions to protest a local drag performance.

We understand the impact that these actions have on our 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the Valley. Acadia stands in support of our local 2SLGBTQIA+ community and 2SLGBTQIA+ people everywhere. We are proud to be an institution with a growing and thriving 2SLGBTQIA+ community of both employees and students. We are made better by the diversity that each of these individuals bring to our shared spaces.

Acadia is proud to have our own Gender Diversity Workplace Inclusion Policy which is focused on creating meaningfully inclusive environments for two-spirit, transgender, non-binary, and other gender diverse members of our community. Our Equity Office provides regular Moving Beyond the Binary workshops designed to foster understanding and respect for human rights and gender diversity. We encourage members of our community to reach out to the Equity Office for support and education. We see you and we are here for you.

Sincerely,

Peter
