Flying the Ukraine flag with concern and hope

Dear campus community,

Like you, in recent days I have watched as the Russian government launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It is surreal that this is happening in our world.

Today, Acadia raised the flag of Ukraine on University Hall to mark our concern and care for the people of Ukraine.

At Acadia, our hearts are with all who are in harm’s way as a result of this direct attack on Ukrainian sovereignty. It is a clear violation of international law with troubling impacts on the region and on democracy itself.

Our university community is from all over the world, and some of us have family and friends in Ukraine or connections to the country. For those in need, we encourage you to reach out to our counselling services for students and employees.

As a campus community, we must continue to offer compassion and support for one another. Our hearts are heavy as we continue to watch events unfold, and we remain hopeful for the return of peace to that region and the world.

Sincerely,

Peter
