As a third generation graduate of Acadia University in a four-generation Acadia family, I am honoured to begin my term as President of the Acadia Alumni Association. Connections to Acadia are part of my DNA; they run strong and deep. My introduction to the University started at an early age, when my parents returned to Acadia in 1963-64 for a year of studies in Education with five young children in tow. I experienced at that formative age the unique sense of belonging that embraces you when you become part of the Acadia community, and I have enjoyed it ever since.
As members of the Acadia alumni family, we are all beneficiaries of the rich Acadia experience our Association supports and fosters. I recall the exceptional learning experiences, the lifelong friendships, the connections with so many professors, and the personal growth I experienced as a student. It all begins when you arrive on campus and continues when you cross the stage to receive your degree. You are in that moment part of a new community, the Acadia alumni community, which promises to support you as you take on new challenges and encourages you to stay connected to your alma mater as you navigate your life’s journey.
Looking ahead to my term as President, we will continue to work hard to deliver quality events and programs for the benefit of our 31,000 alumni worldwide. We have a very engaged Board of Directors that believe in the Association’s mission and giving back to an institution that was instrumental in shaping who we are today.
You can stay in touch with your fellow alumni and the University through our alumni website, the monthly alumni e-Newsletter, and your biannual alumni magazine, the Bulletin. Check out our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. Join in our online virtual events or participate in lifelong and long distance learning through Open Acadia.
Your Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Office of Advancement, hosts gatherings and events across the Maritimes, Canada and internationally throughout the year. When circumstances permit, I invite you to return to campus for Summer Reunion, Homecoming, our annual Alumni Dinner and Awards Night, and many of our other off- campus gatherings.
I am excited for what the future holds, and look forward to meeting many of you in the coming months.
Donalda MacBeath ('75)
