The BMO Lecture Series returned to Acadia University on Thursday, March 23, 2023 with The Honourable Bill Morneau as the featured speaker. A good crowd packed into the K. C. Irving Environmental Science Centre Auditorium to hear Mr. Morneau discuss his new book, Where To From Here, A Path To Canadian Prosperity, with moderator Jane Taber.

In the summer of 1958, Ron Buckley tucked an engagement ring into his pocket and headed off on a second-hand motorcycle to propose to his girlfriend, Carol Chipman, at the girls’ camp where she was working for the season. After the bike broke down, he hitch-hiked the last 50 kilometres and the rest is history.

Serial entrepreneur and General Partner in District Ventures Capital, Arlene Dickinson, visited the Acadia campus and spoke to an audience of nearly 500 students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members at the 2022 BMO Lecture Series on November 17.

On Founder’s Day, November 15, 2022 (which is also National Philanthropy Day), Acadia University Chancellor Bruce Galloway (’68, ’03 HON) hosted a full room of donors that included local alumni and friends, faculty and staff, to thank them for their tremendous support of Acadia students.

The influence of an outstanding coach can last a lifetime. Female athletes from the 1960s and ’70s have set up an Acadia award in Liz Vermeulen’s name to honour their friend and former coach and the strong teamwork she fostered. Now they’re hoping more of Liz’s former student athletes and other alumni will join them in supporting the Liz Vermeulen Women’s Sport Award.

Jack MacDonald (’69) offers the same piece of advice at almost every speaking engagement, telling people to find a job they love and they will never work a day in their lives. Thanks to a deal struck more than 50 years ago with Al Whittle (’60), long-time manager of Acadia Cinema’s Al Whittle Theatre, MacDonald was able to follow his own words of wisdom in a career that took him to the top of the hospitality sector.

Thanks to the generosity of the John and Judy Bragg Foundation, up to 13 Acadia students benefit annually from the following awards, named in honour of former teachers who were Acadia alumni:

Some of the most recent recipients of these awards spoke to Acadia about their lives as students and shared their gratitude:
