Edouard Massey French Language Bursary

Bursary of up to $1,270 | Eligibility: Arts, French, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Edouard Massey French Language Bursary is provided through the generosity of Mr. William C. Hankinson (B.A. Acadia, 1932; M.A. 1933) who was associated over many years with modern language teaching and broadcasting and was founder of the Maritime Concert Association and the Canadian Institute of Speech. The bursary is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Department of French to assist a third or fourth year student to attend a French language institution in Quebec or France for a French immersion program of at least six weeks duration. The bursary may apply for summer or regular academic year study.

Elinor Kyte-Senior Memorial Scholarship in History

The Elinor Kyte-Senior Memorial Scholarship in History. Established in 1989 by her family and friends, in memory of Elinor Kyte­Senior (1926 - 1989), a member of the Acadia Faculty 1986 - 87 and 1988 - 89. The scholarship is awarded to a student entering the second or subsequent year of a program leading to a major or honours degree in History. Preference shall be given to a student who has demonstrated a special interest and ability in Military History.

Ellen V. Piers Psychology Award

Award | Eligibility: Arts, Pure and Applied Science, Psychology, Current 4th year

Established through the estate of Ellen V. Piers (’39, ’46), this award is granted to a fourth-year student who is seeking graduate study in Clinical Psychology, as determined by the Department of Psychology. Dr. Ellen Piers earned a BA (1939) and a BEd (1946) at Acadia and finally a PhD (1954) at Peabody before becoming a well-known psychologist.

Ellis-Kirkpatrick Scholarship in Nutrition

Scholarship of up to $950 | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Nutrition, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Ellis-Kirkpatrick Scholarship in Nutrition. A scholarship of $950 to be awarded annually in either the penultimate or ultimate year of the Bachelor of Science degree program on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Emma Tichenor Memorial Award

Award of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Biology, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Graduate

Established in 2015 by the family and friends of Emma Tichenor, this award is granted annually to a full-time biology student, either undergraduate or graduate, who is focusing their research on wildlife management or conservation, with a preference for the study of black bears.

Emma Kate DiCara Tichenor, 24, worked with Acadia through a joint NS Department of Natural Resources. As part of this collaborative program, she was working as a junior project biologist when she lost her life in a motor vehicle accident. Passionate about wildlife, Emma earned a BSc in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University (2011) and a MSc in Conservation Biology from the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand (2013).

Everett and Maude Coldwell Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship of up to $450 | Eligibility: Arts, French, Spanish, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Everett & Maude Coldwell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a senior honours student who has made a distinguished record in French or Spanish. It may be awarded to a senior honours student who is going on to graduate work in the same language at another university which either specializes in that language or is located in the province or country of which that language is a native language. Need, character, ability and the probability of entering the teaching profession in the public schools of Nova Scotia are to be taken into consideration. The scholarship was established from the Estate of Ray Lloyd Coldwell (B.A. Acadia, 1917; M.A. Columbia; M.A. Acadia) teacher, administrator, and author.
