Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

Farris-Kierstead Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Arts, Current 3rd year

A scholarship in the amount of $240 was endowed by the late Mrs. Evlyn Fenwick Farris, Class of 1898, and honorary LL.D. of this University. It is to be awarded to a meritorious third-year student in Arts.

Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship In Business

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Business Administration, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship in Business is awarded annually to a returning student in the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program on recommendation of the School of Business. This scholarship is made possible through a bequest in 1998 from the late Florence M. Bishop (BA 1934) of Hantsport, Nova Scotia and a donation in 2019 by Dr. Roy Bishop of Avonport, Nova Scotia (CAS 1959, BScH 1961).

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Physics, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Florence Jodrey Bishop Scholarship in Physics is awarded annually to a returning student in the Bachelor of Science (Physics) degree program on recommendation of the Physics Department. This scholarship is made possible through a bequest in 1998 from the late Florence M. Frances McNally Scholarship in Nutrition

Scholarship | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Nutrition, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Graduate

The Frances McNally Scholarship in Nutrition was established in memory of Frances M. McNally (Doctor of Science Acadia, 1943), founder and first Dean of the School of Home Economics at Acadia. The scholarship of $1345 may be awarded annually on recommendation of Nutrition and Dietetics to either a superior senior student or to an Acadia graduate proceeding directly to first-year graduate study in nutrition or related areas.

Frank Hughes Memorial Award

Award | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music Therapy, Current 3rd year

The Frank Hughes Memorial Award is granted on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Music to a Bachelor of Music Therapy student in their third year of study demonstrating financial need. Preference will be given to students with an expressed desire to work with individuals coping with mental health disorders.

The award was established in 2021 in loving memory of Frank by his niece and sister, Miyako Shima and Eve Hughes. Frank studied at Royal Holloway College (University of London, B.Music) and was a brilliant violinist and pianist who traveled the world playing music and shared his passion through his album “Life Is Nothing Without Music”. Frank was a strong advocate for music therapy as a powerful recovery tool for those with mental health issues.

Freda N. Wales Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Community Development, Kinesiology, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Freda N. Wales Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Kinesiology and the Head of the Department of Community Development to an individual who is a resident of Nova Scotia, who has completed at least two years of a college or university program, and who wishes to pursue a program specializing in outdoor leadership at Acadia University. The scholarship was established in 1982 by friends and colleagues of Freda Wales (B.Sc. McGill) in memory of a lifetime of dedicated service to mankind along with a deep commitment to the advancement of outdoor education and all outdoor pursuits.

Frederic H. Sexton Scholarship in Engineering

Scholarship of up to $1,135 | Eligibility: Pure and Applied Science, Applied Science, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year

The Frederic H. Sexton Scholarship in Engineering. An endowed scholarship has been established in memory of Frederic H. Sexton, C.B.E., founder and for forty years President of the Nova Scotia Technical College. It will be awarded to the final-year engineering student with the highest record in the course at Acadia and who commences full-time studies at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Engineering.
