Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

MacDonald Chisholm Scholarship in Business

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Business Administration, Current 1st year

The MacDonald Chisholm Scholarship in Business is provided by MacDonald Chisholm Incorporated and awarded annually to the student who has the highest academic standing in year one who proceeds to year two.

MacVicar Athletic Bursary

Bursary of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Arts, Professional Studies, Pure and Applied Science

Established in 2016 by Mary Whitney MacVicar (’90) and Allan MacVicar (’92), the award is granted annually in recognition of financial need. The recipient is a male student actively involved in athletic pursuits (varsity, club or external) while attending Acadia. Bursary applicants must convey in writing how this bursary will support their academic and athletic endeavours.

Magic 949-MBS Athletic Award

Award of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Athletics, Professional Studies, Business Administration

Established in 2019 by Annapolis Valley Radio, this award recognizes a returning female varsity student-athlete enrolled in business. Preference will be given to a student who expresses an interest in a journalism career. The recipient must be in good academic standing, demonstrate leadership on the team and in the community. Value: $1,000.

Margaret’s Legacy Award

Award of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Education

Awarded to a mature student enrolled in a Bachelor of Education who has had some work and life experience, moving toward a second career, the Margaret Aylward Legacy Award recognizes a student who has a strong work ethic and is bravely undertaking a new chapter later in life. Preferably identifying as a woman, this student may be juggling parenting or other caregiving, part-time or full-time work, volunteer leadership roles in the community or other extraordinary challenges.

Honouring their mother, Margaret Aylward (’74 & ’79), the family is proudly sharing her accomplishments and personal traits through this award. Margaret raised five children while going to school and working full-time as an educator. Fiercely determined, she took courses over many years at night and in the summer in order to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bachelor of Education degrees, furthering her expertise and abilities as a teacher.

Value: $1,000 annually

Marjorie Manning Fountain Scholar-Bursary

Scholar-Bursary | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Business Administration, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Marjorie Manning Fountain Scholar-Bursary to be awarded annually for study in The Fred C. Manning School of Business Administration to a student who has been a resident of the Atlantic Provinces of Canada for a period of ten years or more. The award could be made for study in any year and could be renewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.

Matthew Balsor Scholar-Bursary

Scholar-Bursary of up to $1,000 | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Business Administration

Established by Matthew Balsor (’11) in 2018, this scholar-bursary is granted in recognition of academic excellence and financial need to a full-time in-course undergraduate enrolled in the F.C. Manning School of Business. The recipient displays their well-rounded character through extracurricular activities in the community or on campus.

Matthew graduated from Acadia University with an Honours BBA and says, “I was fortunate enough to have my post-secondary education paid for through scholarships and bursaries and am in a position to be able to give back and help others who are working hard to help themselves.” Matthew furthered his credentials with a CIM and FCUIC, having worked in finance before returning to be employed at his alma mater.

Minnie A. Poole Scholarship

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Minnie A. Poole Scholarship was established through the Estate of Mrs. Minnie A. (Poole) Scott (Diploma Acadia Ladies' Seminary, 1924) to provide support for one or more student(s) of solo piano forte in the Bachelor of Music program on recommendation of the Director of the School of Music.

Morton Memorial Scholarship in Music

Scholarship | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year, Entering first year

The Morton Memorial Scholarship in Music was established by Dr. Harry S. Morton in memory of his mother, Maie Stafford Morton. It is available as an entrance or in-course scholarship to an outstanding student on recommendation of the Director of the School of Music.

Muriel Wallace Music Bursary

Bursary | Eligibility: Professional Studies, Music

The Muriel Wallace Music Bursary is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Music to an entering or returning student in the Bachelor of Music degree program who shows promise in pipe organ, piano and/or voice. The bursary is made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Muriel L. Wallace (Acadia '37, '38) of Fredericton, NB and is awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement.
