Scholarships & Financial Assistance


With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

Sgt. Philip Sydney Beals Memorial Prize

Prize of up to $70 | Eligibility: Arts, English, Current 1st year, Current 2nd year, Current 3rd year, Current 4th year

The Sgt. Philip Sydney Beals Memorial Prize. A prize of $70 was contributed by the family of the late Sgt. Philip S. Beals of the 85th Bn. C.E.F. It will be awarded annually in April by the Department of English to the student having submitted the best piece of poetry.

Sully Ashfield and Barbara Bill Ashfield Fund

Award | Eligibility: Arts, Athletics, Professional Studies, Pure and Applied Science, Aboriginal and/or Africian Nova Scotia

Established in 2012 through a generous gift from the Estate of Barbara Cameron Ashfield, the Fund provides support for student awards at Acadia University. Specifically, disbursements from the Ashfield Fund are divided evenly between general, athletic, and special (i.e. Nova Scotia aboriginal and African) student awards.

Sydney Taylor '13 Memorial Award

Award | Eligibility: Arts

The Sydney Taylor ’13 Memorial Award is awarded to (a) returning student(s) in the Faculty of Arts who has enriched campus life as an active Acadia citizen through academic, on‐ or off campus leadership or activities. Awards will be made based on applications to be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The Sydney Taylor ’13 Memorial Award was established in 2013 by friends and family in memory of Sydney Taylor, to honour her commitment to academic excellence, her inquisitive nature and her love of family, friends and community. Sydney was a vibrant and active member of the Acadia community who was passionate about human rights,music and the environment whose life should serve as an inspiration to young people to be confident and fearless. She completed her Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Politics.
