The Steve Pound Basketball Award is awarded annually to a student entering a degree program at Acadia University. Based on the recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics and the Varsity Basketball Coaches, the award will be given to a student who intends to be a member of an Acadia varsity basketball team.
This endowed award was established in 2006 by Mrs. Jean (BA Acadia 1939) & Dr. Jim (BSC, DSC Acadia 1937, 1962) Beveridge in honour of Dr. Steve Pound (BSc, BEd Acadia 1972, 1975; MSC Dalhousie 1977; PHD Université Laval 1994). Dr. Pound starred as a basketball Axeman for four seasons and received many individual honours during this time. He was also an outstanding performer on the 1970-71 Canadian Intercollegiate championship team. In 1997 he was inducted into Acadia University’s Sports Hall of Fame. Dr. Pound returned to Acadia in 1986 and served as Executive Director of the Associated Alumni of Acadia University for more than a decade. Dr. Pound is a life-long supporter of Acadia University.
