Choosing First Year Courses

Establishing the best first year schedule helps you set the foundation for a successful Acadia experience. To help with this, your department has recommended the courses you should register for in your first year. To make the process even easier for you, many departments will pre-register you for your required courses. Most programs allow you to choose and self-register for at least one elective in your first year. Academic advising is available at any stage should you need it.

Important Notes

You will need to register for the two French courses above (FRAN 1213 and 1223 OR FRAN 1613 and 1623 OR FRAN 2013 and 2023), and for your 24h of electives.

If you are taking your first French course at Acadia, you must take the online placement test before registration, and register for the appropriate course specified by your test score. If your score is very high and you do not have the pre-requisite to register for a French course appropriate for your level, please contact the department.

Students who have taken NS Grade 11 French or Grade 12 French (or a similar level from another province or country) will normally register in FRAN 1213/1223. Students who have attended French Immersion programs to grade 12 (or who have done considerably more than just Grade 12) will normally register in FRAN 1613/1623 or FRAN 2013/2023.
