Apply for the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation Scholarships at Acadia University

For students pursuing studies in environmental science, biology, environmental and sustainability studies, or environmental geoscience, the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation Scholarships in Environmental Studies are among the most prestigious awards in Canada, offering financial assistance as well as mentorship and research project options.

Established by the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation, these scholarships make possible recipients’ learning experiences at the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, which will be integral parts of the students' education. Applicants are asked to submit a 500-word essay describing their interest in environmental science and the value of scientific and environmental research in making a significant difference to the world.

Value: Scholarships are awarded to high school students at a value of $60,000 ($15,000 per year). All recipients must enroll or be enrolled in programs of Environmental Studies at Acadia University which might include Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Biology, Environmental and Sustainability studies, and Community Development.

Each recipient must present strong academic credentials and have a history of leadership, community service and extracurricular activities. Renewability conditions apply for each of the scholarships.

Deadline: Applications for the undergraduate scholarship must be received by March 31.

The Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation Scholarships Review Panel will select and interview a shortlisted group of applicants. The panel comprises Dr. Peter Ricketts, Acadia University President and Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Ian Spooner; and the Trustees of the Arthur Irving Academy, including Arthur, Sandra and Sarah Irving.

Shortlisted candidates for the undergraduate scholarship will be interviewed in Wolfville in early April. Candidates from outside of the Atlantic Provinces may be interviewed by videoconference.
