41st Huggins Science Seminar: The Power of the Past:Tracking Lake Ecosystem Changes in an Anthropocene World

October 18, 2022 (7:00 pm)

Location: Huggins Science Hall Room#10

John P. Smol, OC, PhD, FRSC, FRS

ONE OF THE GREATEST CHALLENGES faced by environmental scientists and regulators is using appropriate time scales to assess environmental change. Due to the general lack of long-term monitoring data, it is often difficult to determine the nature and timing of ecosystem changes.  Nonetheless, the ecosystems around us have been (indirectly) archiving records of past environmental changes in a wide spectrum of sources. This presentation will focus on how lake sediments can be used to assess important lake management issues.

EVERYONE WELCOME.

Reception to follow in the Huggins Foyer.
