Artists often create works for public gathering areas like squares and parks. Historically, these works were commonly permanent and monumental, exerting the importance of their subject matter on the public. Currently, artists and art organizations are embracing temporality and flexibility, broadening the connections and impact that public-facing art projects can have. But what are the complexities of the ties that connect the public and artistic intent?
