The Mi’kmaq traditionally celebrate the midwinter feast after the first new moon of January. Midwinter marks the end of the year and the start of the new ceremonial year. This traditional feast is to honour and give thanks to the spiritual forces, including the Great Spirit/Creator, for the blessing of life, health and sustenance.
