Acadia and Service Employees Union Ratify New Agreement
Acadia University and the union representing its support staff, the Service Employees International Union Local 2, have ratified the terms of a new, three-year collective agreement effective July 1, 2011 and ending June 30, 2014. Members of the Union and the University’s Board of Governors have voted in favour of accepting the new agreement.
“Negotiators from both bargaining teams need to be congratulated for reaching a settlement through collective bargaining that achieved our common goals,” said Paul Jewer, Chair of Acadia’s Board of Governors. “Acadia’s administrative, support, and technical staff are important partners in Acadia’s overall efforts to strengthen its reputation for quality service to students.”
This three-year agreement provides certainty to both our campus community and to individual SEIU members over the life of the contract.
“I want to thank members of the SEIU negotiating team for their hard work on behalf of their colleagues,’ said Troy Acker, Chair of SEIU Local 2. “Acadia’s SEIU members are focused on delivering the best service possible to the campus community. This agreement provides the stability our members are looking for and will allow us to seek out new opportunities to make Acadia an even better place to work and more attractive to students.”
