Acadia announces Fall 2020 intentions

Dr. Peter Ricketts, President and Vice-Chancellor

Acadia University intends to welcome students back to campus for a COVID-19-ready Fall 2020 term with a hybrid approach to teaching and learning, announced Dr. Peter Ricketts, Acadia’s President and Vice-Chancellor. His message to the Acadia community was sent directly to students, faculty, and staff via email on June 1, 2020.

Informed by public health guidance and input from the campus community, Acadia University intends to implement a hybrid approach to academic programming in September that includes a mix of in-person, online, and remote course delivery.

“While further details and consultations are required before we make a final decision, our intention is that the fall 2020 experience be designed to keep our community safe while ensuring access to quality education for our students. By working together, and respecting health directives, we can bring our community together in new ways and move Acadia forward,” said Dr. Ricketts.

The messages sent to the Acadia community explained that the first step of a multi-phase approach is to return research activities to campus this summer.

“We recognize that there is some risk in returning to campus, that is why we are focusing on safety measures and flexibility in course delivery,” said Dr. Ricketts. “We are fortunate to be able to scale our operations so that we can offer safe, in-person experiential learning. Part of our planning also includes being able to pivot the way we provide course and service delivery if changes in public health directions require it.”

Specific details on changes to operational services, academic programming, and campus life are expected later in June so that students and their families can plan for Fall 2020.

The University will notify the Acadia community as decisions and operational changes are determined. Updates will also be posted on the COVID-19 information website.
