Acadia Entrepreneur Team Tops in Region

The 2011 Atlantic Canada Regional Champions of the Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) program and the Student Entrepreneur Program were announced on March 11 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) Regional Exposition. Acadia University’s 10-member team was awarded first place in the 2011 Scotiabank & SIFE Go Green Challenge, second in 2011 SIFE Financial Education Challenge, and third in 2011 TD SIFE Entrepreneurship Challenge.

“Acadia’s team of about ten active members was among the smallest at the competition,” says Ian Hutchinson, acting director of the F.C. Manning School of Business. “This size differential didn’t faze our team as they took on fourteen other schools.”

During the two-day competition post-secondary students competed for prestigious regional champion titles by showcasing their community outreach projects and business ventures to live judging panels composed of industry professionals. Regional champions will now move on to the national level of competition, taking place from May 9-11, at the 2011 ACE National Exposition in Toronto, ON.

“Every year, our students continue to amaze us with their dedication and determination to become leaders, create connections and build a better Canada,” explains ACE President Amy Harder in a news release. “Due to this ongoing commitment, we know the future of this country is in good hands.”
