Axemen curling team heading to Nationals

Acadia University will be one of two Atlantic Region teams competing at the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) University Curling Championships at the Welland Curling Club in Welland, Ontario, March 14-18.

The Acadia University Axemen team includes: Skip Robert Mayhew; Third: Michael Brophy; Second: Alex Trites; Lead: Ben Creaser; Alternate: Luke Melanson; and Coach Alan Mayhew.
Brock University in St. Catharines will act as the host for the championships, which brings together eight men’s and eight women’s teams competing for Canadian university titles. The eight teams of each gender consist of two each from the Atlantic Region, Ontario and Canada West and one each from Quebec and host Brock University. After the round robin, the first place teams advance to their respective finals, while the second and third place teams meet in semi-finals.

The winning teams will then represent Canada the following year at the 2013 FISU Winter Universiade in Maribor, Slovenia, January 30 – February 9.
