Discovery Quest - Acadia Welcomes Students

Acadia University and Irving Oil are pleased to present the 8th Annual Discovery Quest, a summer institute for Grade 11 students from the Maritime Provinces and New England. The program will run June 20 to June 26. Discovery Quest is an experience-based program designed to support students in their desire to learn and contribute to a deeper understanding of themselves and the environment.  All student who participate in Discovery Quest must first be nominated by their school.

Participants are divided into groups of four to prepare a case study on a topic to be assigned at the beginning of the week. They will conduct an investigation through a literature search, and data collection, interpretation and analysis. Each group will be required to present some meaningful conclusions and recommendations to address the issue. Groups will have ten minutes to present their case with a five minute rebuttal.

Other components of the program include ice-breaker activities, team building skills, entrepreneurial workshops, and career and academic planning sessions. Planned social and recreational events round out the week.

Discovery Quest was established to engage grade 11 students who exhibit exceptional promise in determining appropriate educational and, ultimately, career paths for themselves. It is hoped that this program will provide promising students with the encouragement to pursue post secondary education in a field that will lead to their significant contribution to this region. Discovery Quest also exposes participants to some of the tools that will assist them in career planning: entrepreneurial thinking, interest assessments, environmental consideration and technology.
