(Wolfville, NS) -- Dr. Dale Keefe, Acadia University Provost and Vice-President, Academic, announced today that Dr. Corinne Haigh will be appointed Dean of Acadia's Faculty of Professional Studies on May 1, 2021.

"It's my pleasure to welcome Dr. Haigh to Acadia to assume this important leadership role," said Keefe. "Dr. Haigh is an impressive scholar and researcher and has demonstrated a special interest in education throughout her career. She believes in the value of a liberal arts education, and I know she will enhance the Acadia experience. I thank members of the search committee for their excellent work to find the right candidate for our campus community."

Dr. Haigh is currently a full professor and Dean of the School of Education at Bishop's University. She received her BA (Honours) in Psychology from Mount Allison University and completed her graduate work at the University of Western Ontario in Educational and Cognitive Psychology.

Dr. Haigh’s research examines how the two languages of someone who is bilingual interact with one another when they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. She has been involved in a number of projects investigating literacy development in elementary school students in bilingual programs. Her work is focused on children at-risk for difficulty with reading, writing, and language and their access to bilingual education programs. Her research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Fonds de Recherche du Québec.

In addition to exemplary teaching and research experiences, Dr. Haigh has held leadership and administrative roles at Bishop's. Within the School of Education, she has served as department Chair, and graduate program coordinator. She has also served on committees such as the Academic Standing and Admissions Policy Committee, Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning, Ad Hoc Committee on Reconciliation and Decolonization, and Ad Hoc Committee for the EWP/Writing Centre. She has also participated in the work of the Graduate Studies Committee, the Senate Committee on Accessibility and Accommodation Services, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Foundations Courses. She has worked with colleagues provincially, and nationally on committees committed to leadership in professional and teacher education, educational research, and policy in universities and university-colleges, including ACDE and ADEREQ.

Dr. Haigh will begin her new role at Acadia in May 2021.
