PepsiCo Kicks off Shinerama Campaign
Pepsi kicked off Acadia’s 2012 Shinerama campaign February 3 by donating $2,500. Shinerama is currently Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser, raising money for Cystic Fibrosis research. Acadia has been participating in Shinerama since 1964, and joins over 65 university and college campuses across Canada in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
Laura Harris, PepsiCo, was present at the Acadia Axemen vs. UNB Varsity Reds hockey game to present the cheque to Mike Trites, Shinerama coordinator. “PepsiCo is happy to be a part of such a great program, and was very happy to hear that Acadia did so well in 2011, winning a national award. We are proud to kick off the 2012 campaign and hope for an even more successful campaign in 2012,” said Harris.
“It is phenomenal to see the 2012 campaign already getting off to such a great start,” said Trites. “The past few years have been difficult to get Shinerama off and running, and such a great start will ensure that we build on the success of our national award-winning campaign of 2011. Pepsi’s partnership with Shinerama has been an integral part of our success, and we hope to continue this partnership in the future.”
In 2011, Acadia won the award for Canada’s most improved campaign of 2011, joining other national award winners Mount Allison, and Saint Mary’s.
The next fundraising event for Shinerama will be the Cheaton Cup, on March 24, where the Chipman Bulldogs will try to recapture the elusive Cheaton Cup from the Eaton Raiders. Tickets will be available in the weeks leading up to the Cheaton Cup from Acadia's Student Info Desk. The past two years the event has donated $2,500 to Acadia’s Shinerama campaign, and with the increasing attendance at the event the organizers are hoping to increase the donation.
