Axe Oppression Rally 2023

On March 30, the Acadia community rallied to Axe Oppression as part of a new initiative focused on equity, anti-oppression, and violence prevention.

Speakers at the event held in the Acadia Athletics Complex included:

  • Cameron Smith (she/they), BEd student, intern at the Sexualized Violence Response and Education Office and lead event planner for Axe Oppression
  • Sophey Morris (they/them), Acadia Pride Coordinator
  • Allison Smith (she/her), Sexualized Violence Response and Education Coordinator
  • Roudraksh Jankee (he/him), International Education Program Intern, Wong International Centre
  • Darlene Copeland (she/her), Indigenous Student Programming Advisor
  • Claudine Bonner (she/her), Vice-Provost of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Smith spearheaded the event with support from Residence Life, Athletics, Equity Office, the Sexualized Violence Response Office, Office of the Vice-Provost for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Vaughan Memorial Library and the Office for Teaching and Learning Excellence. Smith's enthusiasm inspired all, and the initial idea quickly blossomed into a campaign and event series focused on equity and anti-oppression.
