Sandra Irving to receive Canadian Red Cross Power of Humanity Award

The Canadian Red Cross will honour Sandra Irving with its Humanitarian Award at this year’s Power of Humanity Awards Dinner in November 2019. Sandra is a member of Acadia’s Class of 1974 and recipient of an honorary doctorate from Acadia in 2017.

Sandra Irving is a steadfast advocate for students, scholarly excellence and building a better world. Together with her husband Arthur, she supports scholarships at Acadia University and other Canadian and US universities. She is also a strong voice for research. In her work with the President's Advisory Council of the Royal Society of Canada she championed research and teaching by our country's leading scholars as a foundation on which our country is built and which enables us to find answers to the leading questions of our time. She is likewise committed to medical education and helps support research in cardiology, neurology and cancer care. Sandra worked closely with husband Arthur, Acadia’s Chancellor Emeritus, to establish the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens at Acadia University, and continues to engage personally with today’s students, including Arthur Irving Scholars in Environmental Science.
