Renewing Your Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
If you are planning to travel outside of Canada while you are a student here, a Re-Entry Visa (TRV) is required, in order for you to return. If you also need to renew your Study Permit, please do so before you renew your TRV as it will only be good until the expiry date of the Study Permit. You should send the application for the TRV around three months before you plan to travel as the process usually takes an average of 90 days to complete. This will also give you enough time to retrieve your passport as well. The processing time are subject to change so for up to date information on the please visit the Check Applcation Processing Times page on the Citizenship and Immigation Canada website.
Appling Online & Sending in Your Passport
You will need to create a 'My CIC Account' to apply online, so if you have not already created one please visit this page to do so. One you log in you will be given a checklist to determine which visa you are applying for. Please note that as you are applying online you do not in your passport until it is requested by Citizenship and Immigation Canada. They will contact you directly. Do not mail your passport until it has been requested because they will be returned to the sender and this will lengthen your processing time.
How to Recieve your TRV by Mail
You must ensure you have the proper mailing address where you or someone you know will be able to receive it. Remember that this process may take several months so you will need to think ahead about where you will be living.
