The course provides an introduction to the hardware principles that are necessary for the understanding of the operation of computers and other digital circuits that are the subject of COMP 2213. Although it does not go into enough depth to make you an expert digital designer, it provides experience with paper-and-pencil methods and access to powerful CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software packages used by professional designers to construct complicated circuits. The software is provided with the book and explained in the last chapter; its use is not a requirement for the course. The course consists of eight lessons corresponding to the first six chapters of the main text and a chapter each from the supplementary texts. Each chapter is followed by a number of exercises, requiring either a written answer or a diagram.
