Reading and Writing Music 1

Fundamentals of music reading and notation and basic concepts in music theory; an introductory course, designed for the non-music major.

This course has been designed for those with little or no previous experience. You'll experience a hands-on introduction to Western Classical music notation and theory.

Topics include:

  • Rhythm (Meter, Time Signatures)
  • Melody (Pitch, Scale)
  • Structural Form (Phrases, Motifs)


You'll apply your knowledge of the musical concepts through audio-enhanced lessons that include sheet music or the use of music notation software.
