Room Draw is our process to allow students already in residence to select a room for the following year.
You have three options in selecting a room. The deadline to register for all three options is Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The draw will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in Fountain Commons.
How do I select my same room or register for in-house or general room draw?
The Room draw link for current residents is found on Acadia Central at http://central.acadiau.ca/my/. You must agree to the terms of living in residence before your selection will be complete. A confirmation will be sent to you by email. You may change your selection at anytime prior to the deadline by logging back in, but when you change your selection, your previous selection will be deleted (for example, you cannot select your current room and also register for in-house room draw while still holding your current room).
Same Room Selection
If you want to keep your current room again for next year you will be able to do so. If you currently live in a double room you will not be able to select the room during this process. If you wish to live in a double room with a roommate, you should both select in-house room draw. We are not able to find roommates for you. The deadline to register for same room selection will be outlined in an email to all students in residence.
In-House Room Draw
The deadline to register for in-house room draw is Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The draw will take place on Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Fountain Commons. The draw will be divided into time slots; one for each house. If you are registered for in-house room draw, you will only be able to select a room in the residence you currently live. Draws will be done by current year of study. The first draw will include the names of students currently in their 4th year or above. The second draw will be for students currently in their 3rd year, and so on. When your name is selected you come up and select which room you want from the available rooms. If you do not register for in-house room draw but choose to attend to select a room, you will be placed in the last draw despite your year of study. If you arrive during or after the draw you were to be placed in, you will be placed in the next draw.
General Room Draw
The deadline to register for in-house room draw is Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The draw will take place on Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Fountain Commons. The draw will commence in order of year of study. The first draw will include the names of students currently in their 4th year or above. The second draw will be for students currently in their 3rd year, and so on. When your name is selected you come up and choose an available room in your residence of choice. If you do not register for general room draw but choose to attend to select a room, you will be placed in the last draw despite your year of study. If you arrive during or after the draw you were to be placed in, you will be placed in the next draw. Only current residents may register for general room draw.
You may only select one of the above three options at one time. For example, if you select the same room selection, but then decide to register for in-house room draw, we will automatically release the room you had previously selected through the same room selection.
If you want to register for in-house or general room draw but you are unable to attend, you must find a fellow student to proxy for you. Please complete the proxy form and have your friend bring it to room draw so they can select a room on your behalf. RAs or SRAs cannot serve as a proxy.
If you decide you want to return to campus next year after the room draw process has taken place, you will need to submit a residence application from our website. You will be assigned a room based on availability and on the preferences indicated on your application.
Residence fees and meal plan choices/prices will be released in the upcoming year.
If you select a room for next year and you decide to cancel, you must cancel by email to firstname.lastname@example.org prior to December 31, 2017 to avoid a cancellation fee. Even if you choose not to return to Acadia, unless you cancel in writing to us, you will be charged a cancellation fee. We will acknowledge receipt of all cancellations – keep this email as your proof of cancellation. If you decide to cancel your room for Winter Term 2017, your selected room assignment for Fall/Winter 2018 will be dropped as well, unless you confirm in writing that you are coming back into residence for Fall/Winter 2018.
Cancellations received between January 1, 2018 and February 28, 2018 will be subject to a $150 cancellation fee.
Cancellations received between March 1, 2018 and the first day of classes will be subject to a $300 cancellation fee.
Cancellations/withdrawals received as of the first day classes will be subject to the withdrawal fees outlined in the academic calendar.
If you register and attend in-house room draw but choose to then attend general room draw, you must arrive at the beginning of general room draw for registration, otherwise you will be placed in the last draw. The room you selected at in-house will be released before the general room draw commences.
If you decide to return to residence after room draw has taken place, you may select a room in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the Residence Life office (room 627, Old Student Union Building).
If you plan on applying for an RA position, we still encourage you to select a room for next year. If you are offered an RA position and you accept, we will reassign you to your RA room and release the room you previously selected.
