Accessibility Foundations workshop
January 24, 2024 (5:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
Location: Fountain Commons Great Hall
All students are invited to participate in the Accessibility Foundations workshop, created by the Nova Scotia Accessibility Directorate. An in-person session will be held Wednesday, Jan 24th, 2024 from 5-8 pm in Fountain Commons. Pizza is being offered and is provided free by Chartwells.
The Foundations workshop includes discussions, reflections and other participatory activities with the following learning objectives:
- Define disability, types of disabilities, accessibility, and the prevalence of disability in Nova Scotia
- Explain the importance of the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act
- Understand the impact of the Accessibility Act on Universities
- Provide examples of barriers and ableism and their impacts on persons with disabilities
- Outline practices to support persons with disabilities to meaningfully participate in community, work, and play
- Feel more motivated and confident to accelerate accessibility in your school and community
Participants will receive a certificate for completing the workshop.
