On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, the Acadia University Singers, with the Blue Engine String Quartet, present “A Mother’s Courage” – a concert program featuring Marie-Claire Saindon’s Méditations de la Vierge Marie (2016) and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (1736).

Composed nearly 300 years apart, Méditations and Stabat Mater both invite us to see through Mary’s eyes: Méditations imagines the young Virgin’s reaction to learning that she will become a mother, and Stabat Mater views the Crucifixion from Mary’s perspective. Together, these two powerful works for treble-voice choir and strings explore the universal themes of compassion, grief, quiet strength, and above all, the courage of unconditional love – a mother’s courage.

The Acadia Singers are excited to collaborate on this program with the Blue Engine String Quartet (Jennifer Jones, Anne Simons, Alexandra Bates, and Hilary Brown). Stabat Mater will feature solo and duet performances by students of the School of Music: Amelia Wheeler, Bailey Pringle, Emily Markwart, Emma Proctor, Hermione Marshall, Maria Zimmerman, and Shelby Scott. The Acadia Singers are directed by Dr. Michelle Boyd.

This concert will begin at 7:30pm in Denton Hall Auditorium. The program is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes in length and will run without intermission.  Admission is by freewill donation at the door.
