March 8, 2024 (12:30 pm - 2:30 pm)

Location: K.C. Irving Centre for Environmental Science (KCIC)

Join us on 8 March 2024 for International Women’s Day

The Acadia University Faculty Association Women’s Committee and the Law and Society Program are pleased to host a reception and keynote talk by The Hon. Judge Amy Sakalauskas of the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia titled, “Time to show ‘em how it’s done.”

A graduate of Acadia University, Judge Sakalauskas was appointed to the Provincial Court of Nova Scotia in 2017 and currently serves as the dedicated judge for the Domestic Violence Court Program in Halifax.

Judge Sakalauskas is the recipient of the Canadian Bar Association (Nova Scotia Branch) Distinguished Service Award (2017) and will begin her term as President of the International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges this summer.

In her talk, Judge Sakalauskas will consider what IWD means, the progress we have made so far, and how this can translate into our lives beyond recognizing IWD once a year. “We have chances in our usual days to inspire inclusion and accelerate progress for gender equality. IWD is a day to reflect on the everyday situations where we can do our part to boost positive change forward. Nothing fancy. Nothing difficult. Just thoughtful and intentional.”

A reception, with light lunch, will be held from 12:30 -1:30 PM in the KCIC Garden Room, followed by the keynote talk at 1:30 PM in the KCIC Auditorium. All are welcome.
