Acadia Crowned Water Conservation Champion
Calgary, AB - Acadia University has been named the 2010 SIFE RBC Blue Water Challenge National Champion by national charitable organization Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE) and proud supporter RBC. The national competition took place at the 2010 ACE National Exposition on May 11 in Calgary.
The "Students In Free Enterprise" (SIFE) team from Acadia stood victorious because of their on-going dedication to educate others on the importance of water sustainability. The team has developed a prototype water bottle refill station that will replace bottled water on campus and will be installing over 30 of them in every building including residence.
The purpose of this national initiative is to encourage SIFE teams to work with organizations in their community to develop innovative solutions to address issues related to water sustainability that create economic value for those involved. The key is to focus on the benefits related to responsible water usage and the opportunity that exists to make or save money through these initiatives.
"SIFE Acadia's accomplishments on their campus should serve as an inspiration for other campuses across Canada", explains Amy Harder, President of ACE. "This team is a perfect example of how our students develop an idea and see it through to completion, with fantastic results."
Close to 1,000 delegates including the country's brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs took part in this annual gathering that effectively engages generations of leaders around the shared cause of building a better Canada. The SIFE RBC Blue Water Challenge is one of the six competitions that takes place annually at this event.
