Acadia marks Mental Health Week with new resource

Approximately one in five people suffer through a mental disorder in their lifetime; most of these individuals say that the stigma associated with mental illness is worse than the actual symptoms itself. Acadia’s Human Resources department, in conjunction with Mental Health WeekShepell·fgi is proud to release a new online, issue-focused initiative, entitled "Managing Stigma.”

“It is so important to seek knowledge and assistance when you need it,” says Kerry Deveau, Acadia’s human resources benefits and pension manager. “Now, besides having access to our counselling and employee assistance programs, Acadia employees now have another tool to assist with their overall wellbeing.”

The web resource is designed to educate, engage and celebrate mental health for all. The microsite features an interactive poll and articles that explore the various facets of stigma and mental health. New this year is the ability to share this resource through social media, raising awareness and sparking conversations about this important topic!

Please visit Managing Stigma today. Participate in the poll, read and share the articles via social media.

“This resource is not just for Acadia employees,” Deveau explains. “Please let your family know about this new resource as well.”
