Acadia researcher assists national drug safety study
Acadia University professor of mathematics and statistics, Dr. Ying Zhang, has joined colleagues from Dalhousie University to launch the Nova Scotia site of the Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies.
The network will feature more than 60 researchers and 10 sites across Canada. Its aim is to examine and better post-market drug safety and effectiveness using administrative health databases. The investigators will also analyze and develop strategies for improved communication and implementation for physicians and patients.
In addition to collaborating with Dalhousie researchers, Dr. Zhang will work with Nova Scotia’s principal investigator, Dr. Adrian Levy, district chief, professor, and department head for Community Health and Epidemiology. The nominated national principal investigator is Dr. Samy Suissa from McGill University.
The network is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and is an initiative of the Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN) (http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/44479.html).
