Acadia’s Residence Buildings – Taylor's Version

By Payton Kirkpatrick

As the iconic Eras Tour draws to a close in Vancouver this weekend, we felt inspired to connect Taylor Swift to our corner of Canada – Acadia’s campus! We assigned each residence building a Taylor Swift album to help you decide which dorm will be the best fit for you.

Debut - Chipman House

As a popular choice for first-years making their Debut into university life, Chipman House is the perfect pair for Swift’s self-titled Debut. For those looking for “A Place in This World”, Chipman’s inclusive environment and learning-centered communities provide an excellent way to meet peers with similar interests. No “teardrops on [your] guitar” here!

Fearless - 55 University Ave

55’s strong sense of community will “drag [you] headfirst” into the heart of campus culture, lending itself perfectly to Swift’s sophomore album, Fearless. From move-in till move-out, you’ll be having “The Best Day” living in this residence, and with the welcoming, open-door vibe of many of 55’s section communities, you’ll never be left wondering what you’re missing out on from “The Other Side of the Door”. Just like Swift said, “what [you’ve been] looking for, has been here the whole time”!

Speak Now – Christofor Hall

Speak Now’s declarative and self-assertive energy makes it a perfect match for Christofor, Hall, a building as vibrant as it is perfect for students finding their voice in this world! The longstanding traditions and sense of school spirit in this building will have you screaming “Long Live!”, and the kindness of the residents will leave you feeling positively “Enchanted”.

Red - Chase Court

Chase Court’s inviting energy and certain coziness is something we know “All Too Well”, making it our pick to pair with Swift’s Red album! With Chase Court’s inviting common areas, it’s the perfect building for “ditch[ing] the whole scene” and staying in with friends, just like Swift does in the “22” music video. As one of the largest residences on campus, Chase Court has a lot to offer, making it a great place to “Stay, Stay, Stay” for all! (Not to mention the building’s mascot, a devil who just so happens to be “re-e-e-ed”!)

1989 - Dennis House

As a building primarily occupied by first-years, the energetic, playful vibe of Dennis House ensures this building will never go out of “Style”, making it a perfect match for 1989! The excitement emanating from Dennis House sets the scene for a kaleidoscope of experiences waiting to be had, in a place so welcoming it will feel like “it’s been waiting for ya”! One thing is for sure, Dennis House’s incredible community is something you will want to “say you remember, even if it’s just in your Wildest Dreams”!

Reputation - Roy Jodrey Hall

“Look what you made me do”… you know we had to pair Roy Jodrey Hall with Reputation! Despite the album’s snake-heavy imagery, Roy Jodrey is anything but serpentine; this newer-built residence is absolutely “Gorgeous”! A favourite residence of upper-year students, Roy Jodrey holds status as many Acadia students’ “End Game” dwelling on campus. “Call it what you want to”, but with Roy Jodrey’s high ceilings and ample air conditioning, the vibe of this building will have you “feeling like Gatsby for the whole year!” “...Is it cool that [we] said all that?”

Lover - Whitman House

As one of the coziest residences with one of the most tight-knit communities on campus, Whitman House felt like the perfect choice to pair with “Lover”! With Whitman’s carefree and whimsical vibes, they won’t mind if you “keep the Christmas lights up till January” in this building! It’s no secret Whitman has beautiful common areas complete with gorgeous furniture, and with the building’s ample windows, you’ll get plenty of “Daylight” in this residence. Whitman House, one thing’s for sure, it would be a “Cruel Summer” without you!

Folklore - Seminary House

As one of the longest-standing residence buildings in Canada, a stay in Seminary will leave you feeling like you have an “Invisible String” to Acadia’s history, making it a perfect fit as our Folklore pairing. With Seminary’s elegant heritage architecture, living here might make you feel like you’re living in Rebekah’s “Holiday House” from “Last Great American Dynasty” (we hope you have a “marvelous time!”). Moreover, Seminary’s proximity to the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens allows for ample opportunity to be “[led] to the garden…”

Evermore - War Memorial House

War Memorial House pairs perfectly with Evermore as both are hidden gems that once discovered will leave you feeling like you hit a “Gold Rush”! War Memorial’s unique and tight-knit community is “one prize [you do not have to] cheat to win”; upon entering, you’ll immediately feel welcomed into the residence’s calm, friendly atmosphere. With War Memorial’s laid-back vibes and spacious amenities, you can forget about all your “Champagne Problems” here!

Midnights - Crowell Tower

As the tallest building on campus, it might be easy to feel like a “monster on the hill”, but just like Swift, Crowell Tower knows better than anyone how to “make the whole place shimmer!” (by looking out over the Annapolis Valley at night and seeing all the lights, duh!) For real, with the beautiful views of the horizon available due to the sheer stature of Crowell Tower, it’s basically “Bejeweled”, making it the perfect match for Midnights. Anyone who loves beautiful scenery, choosing to live in this building is a definite “Mastermind”! Not to mention those sunsets “so scarlet…”

The Tortured Poet’s Department – Eaton House

With the chill vibes and sense of community present in Eaton House, this is one place you will want to stay for much longer than a “Fortnight”. As our pick to pair with The Tortured Poet’s Department, this building is so homey it will have you saying anything but “I Hate it Here”! Much like The Tortured Poet’s Department’s extensive track list, there is a lot to love about Eaton House; from the cozy common areas to the ample choice of rooming, “in this light, we’re loving it!”.

Whichever residence you choose to live in, we are so excited for you to be entering your Acadia era!
