Acadia Student Spirits Shine during Welcome Week Fundraiser

Acadia student spirits shone during Welcome Week as they raised more than $7,000 during the annual Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser, Shinerama.

Acadia was one of 65 post-secondary institutions across Canada to participate in Shinerama. It is a post-secondary fundraiser that raises money to help fund Cystic Fibrosis (CF) research and is currently Canada's largest post-secondary fundraiser.

Acadia students visited various communities in the Annapolis Valley to shine shoes, play instruments, and solicit donations for Acadia's Shinerama campaign. There are other fundraisers planned for Acadia's Shinerama campaign during the academic year, the biggest being residence hockey grudge match The Cheaton Cup, which is slated for March.

"This year's campaign was an outstanding success," said Mike Trites, Acadia Shinerama Coordinator. "The success of this campaign is thanks to the hard work and dedication of many people; ranging from volunteers with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF), the Acadia Students' Union, and Acadia Student Service representatives. More importantly, the students of Acadia University deserve a tremendous thank you. This campaign would not be able to continue without their support."
