Acadia students shine during fundraiser

Shinerama fundraising success!

Nearly 300 Acadia students participated in the annual Welcome Week fundraiser - Shinerama: Students fighting Cystic Fibrosis - and far exceeded expectations by raising over $9,000.

On Saturday, September 10, Acadia joined 65 college and university campuses across Canada by participating in Shinerama, which is currently Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser. Last year the event raised $1 million for CF research.

Students from the Acadia community visited the local area to shine shoes, wash cars, play instruments, and solicit donations for the annual fundraiser. This year, Acadia was able to increase its fundraising total by almost $3,000, and had over 100 more student volunteers.

“The Acadia community never ceases to impress me with its spirit and enthusiasm,” said Mike Trites, Acadia Shinerama coordinator. “I am extremely grateful to all who came out in support of Shinerama, and also grateful for all those in the local communities who were willing to donate to such a great cause. I look forward to Acadia attempting to surpass this mark next year. Hopefully, soon we will be able to find a cure for CF.”
