Campus Advisory - Threatening social media post

On June 6, 2023, Acadia University learned about a post on social media threatening violence on campus. The post has since been deleted.

Acadia’s Department of Safety and Security immediately notified the RCMP to investigate, authenticate, and evaluate the threat. As the investigation unfolds, Acadia and the RCMP are taking collaborative actions to identify the source and respond accordingly.

Given the nature of the social media post, the Department of Safety and Security and the RCMP have heightened monitoring activities and increased patrols on and around campus.

You are encouraged to keep personal safety in mind by being aware of your surroundings and trusting your instincts. If you have not already done so, members of the campus community are invited to register for emergency alerts via Everbridge.

If you see suspicious activity, a concerning social media post, or are feeling unsafe, call Safety and Security’s 24-hour phone line at (902) 585-1103 or email security.office@acadiau.ca. Do not engage with any individual who could pose a threat. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.

This is a disturbing subject. If you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, students might consider consulting with the Counselling Centre at (902) 585-1246 or counselling@acadiau.ca, while employees can access support through Acadia’s Employee and Family Assistance Program.

We will keep you informed of any new information pertaining to this matter.
