Acadia names Nancy Handrigan Vice-President of Advancement

Acadia University announced today that Nancy Handrigan (’92) CFRE has been appointed the University’s Vice-President of Advancement. Handrigan’s appointment became effective on December 2, 2022. She has held the position on an interim basis since March 1, 2021.
“In Nancy, Acadia has a strong advocate who cares deeply about the people and place that make Acadia unique in Canada as a top choice for students seeking an unparalleled educational experience,” said Henry Demone (‘76), Chair of Acadia’s Board of Governors. “I am thankful she will continue to lead our advancement efforts.”

Handrigan developed her alumni relations and fundraising skills at McMaster University, followed by a major gifts and gift planning position at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Foundation in Burlington, Ontario. Before joining Acadia in 2013 as Executive Director of Philanthropy, she led philanthropy efforts at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario. Handrigan holds a Bachelor of Music from Acadia, a Master of Arts, and an Executive Management Certificate from McMaster University. She earned her Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation in 2011.
In 2017, Handrigan added Campaign Director to her duties when the University launched Campaign for Acadia, the most ambitious fundraising initiative in its history.

“I am pleased that Nancy will stay with her alma mater and continue to lead our fundraising and alumni relations efforts at a critical time in our history,” said Dr. Peter Ricketts, Acadia’s President and Vice-Chancellor. “Nancy’s skill is exceptional, and she brings a proven record of success and unfaltering dedication to the entire Acadia community.

“Nancy’s tremendous commitment to relationship-building, combined with her skill, diplomacy, and sheer hard work, were critical to the success of Campaign for Acadia,” Dr. Ricketts said. The Campaign raised more than $86 million to transform the student experience, inspire teaching and engagement, enhance research and discovery, and build campus infrastructure.

“I’m honoured to continue to work closely with Acadia’s leadership, alumni, supporters, faculty, staff, and students to ensure that our University has a bright future,” Handrigan said.

“We have exceptional students and extraordinary programs and faculty. My objective is to partner with alumni and friends to help ensure that students have transformative experiences and are ready to take their place in an ever-changing world,” she added. “We are fortunate that so many of our graduates also bring their skills and passion to our alumni network worldwide.”

Dr. Ricketts applauded the significant effort in vetting candidates for the position. “I thank our search committee and the support of The Griffith Group for their work on Acadia’s behalf and especially our alumni for their continued support.”
