Not "for the faint of heart or the weak in the nose": researching brain worms

CBC profiles the work of Acadia Biology student Willow Bennett. Willow is conducting the first survey of brain worms in Nova Scotia's white-tailed deer population in decades, with the hope of developing insights that can help protect the dwindling population of mainland moose.

This is hands-on research—"It isn't for the faint of heart or the weak in the nose"—of the kind that can be necessary to assess wildlife health and ultimately support conservation. Bennett's analysis will also include testing the animals for exposure to high mercury levels and COVID-19. Read the full story at CBC Nova Scotia.
