Acadia University fourth-year economics student Robyn Zajac has won the 2012 Atlantic Association of Applied Economics Student Prize for Economic Policy. The competition is designed to encourage student interest in economic policy issues in the Atlantic region.

Zajac’s presentation “Crime Rates and Socio-Economic Factors in Canada” won first place, marking the third time in the four-year history of the competition that an Acadia student has placed first. 

Three students were selected for the final competition held recently in Halifax. Each made a short presentation on their economic policy topic to a group of professional economists.

Zajac, who hails from Winnipeg, received a cash prize of $750. The other finalists were awarded a cash prize of $200.
