Resilience amid grief, service above self. Fundamental qualities that reflect Acadia’s motto, In Pulvere Vinces. There are few people in Acadia’s alumni community who have confronted personally devastating circumstances and debilitating heartbreak with as much grace, humility and determination and were able to turn it into service for our university as this year’s Acadia Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service recipient, Barry Taylor (’80).
The inaugural lecture in the Dr. Fred Gilbert (’65) Speaker Series presented by the Acadia Alumni Association featuring Acadia Honorary degree recipient Dr. Hans-Otto Pörtner (’22) was held on Oct. 6, 2022 in K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre auditorium on the Acadia campus. The audience was comprised of students, staff, faculty, community members and politicians.
It was just like old times at Acadia University during Homecoming Weekend 2022. Skies were overcast, but the rain held off and the enthusiasm of alumni returning with fewer pandemic restrictions lent an upbeat and festive mood that was everywhere on campus.
Alumni raised their glasses to Acadia at an intimate gathering in the Pimlico Room at The Orange in Belgravia, London, on Sept. 22, 2022 as they heard updates from University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Peter Ricketts and Vice-President, Advancement (Interim) Nancy Handrigan (’92).
There was much to enjoy and plenty to appreciate on July 29, 2022 at the 40th Acadia Alumni Golf Tournament at KenWo Golf Club in New Minas, Nova Scotia, located in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. Participants were pumped and the mood was upbeat as 25 teams and more than 120 golfers took to the course to celebrate our alumni community and provide financial support to incoming Acadia students.
