Winners in the 2022 Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) Prix d’Excellence competition were announced June 1-2, and the fall 2021 edition of Acadia’s digital alumni magazine, the Bulletin, captured bronze in the highly competitive ‘Best Publication (print or online)’ category.
It was a great night on May 26, 2022 when approximately 30 Acadia alumni – including hosts Nancy Handrigan (’92), Vice-President, Advancement (Interim), and Oonagh Proudfoot (’93, ’06), Executive Director, Alumni Affairs – gathered at Grace O’Malley’s in Toronto for a delightful in-person meet and greet event.
There has been a lot of change in the last couple of years, and with change come new ideas and tremendous opportunity for growth. The pandemic has informed how staff connect and engage with alumni and, in response to recent consultation with and feedback from constituents, the Alumni Office has reimagined what reunion gatherings will look like.
The Acadia Alumni Association’s Annual General Meeting occurred on Saturday, May 7, 2022. It was the Association’s first hybrid meeting and there were approximately 35 attendees from across Canada, the United States, The Bahamas, and Germany. The Board reported on finances, programming, and the many strategic initiatives undertaken over the past year. The 2021-2022 Annual Report was also presented and is available to view HERE.
On May 8 and 9, 2022, more than 800 graduates from Acadia University’s four faculties – Arts, Pure and Applied Science, Professional Studies, and Theology – received their undergraduate and graduate diplomas, joining Acadia’s more than 40,000 alumni worldwide. In addition, Acadia conferred five honorary degrees on individuals who have distinguished themselves in public service, education, and scientific research.
Every now and then a person arrives on campus who ticks all the boxes when it comes to defining the quintessence of an Acadia student. The Acadia Alumni Association is proud to recognize and honour one such individual with this year’s The Athenaeum and Acadia Alumni Student of the Year Award: Sarah Lavallée (’22).
